Rangers Must Act Fast to Secure Fares Ghedjemis
Rangers are contemplating another transfer offer for Frosinone winger Fares Ghedjemis. The Gers are being heavily linked with the left-footed attacker as Derek McInnes wants more quality out wide. With Celtic also in the race for the Algeria international's signature, the Light Blues face competition to complete a deal.
What Happened?
The Ibrox hierarchy have made two bids for Ghedjemis so far, but have failed to convince Frosinone. The Italian club are holding out for more after the 23-year-old scored 15 league goals last season to help them win promotion to the top flight.
Why It Matters for Rangers
The Light Blues are aware of the Serie A side's demands, and may have just one option left. If they meet Frosinone's valuation, it would make Ghedjemis their biggest incoming transfer. However, committing such a significant sum on the Algerian forward wouldn't be wise for the Glaswegian outfit.
What Comes Next?
Daisuke Yokota has moved to Ibrox for an initial fee of £2.75m from Hannover 96, and the Gers should only spend heavily on a proven talent next. McInnes is desperate for quality out wide as Djeidi Gassama and Findlay Curtis have failed to make a mark at the start of the season. The Scottish manager has been left with a dearth of options on the wings after Oliver Antman and Nedim Bajrami's exits.
Ibrox Hierarchy Have Perfect Alternative
If Andrew Cavenagh does have the finances to pull off a big-money move, he should focus on bringing Vaclav Cerny back to Ibrox. The Czechia forward was the second-highest goalscorer for the Light Blues during the 2024-25 campaign and proved himself in the William Hill Premiership. What the Glaswegian outfit should now do is try to negotiate a deal with Besiktas for Cerny, 28, instead of pushing for Ghedjemis' transfer.
