Rangers have overtaken Celtic in squad market value, a financial marker that coincides with a tightening Premiership title race. The club's squad is now valued at £132 million, a 4.6% increase from last summer, which puts them nearly £19 million ahead of Celtic's £113 million valuation.

This financial shift comes as Rangers sit second in the Premiership with 16 points from seven games. They are just two points behind leaders Celtic and are currently on a five-match winning streak. The run includes a 3-0 victory over Celtic on September 13 and a 1-0 win against St Mirren four days later.

Squad value shows growing strength

The updated valuations highlight the growing financial strength within the Rangers squad. Midfielder Nicolas Raskin is individually valued at €15 million by the data service Transfermarkt. Across the league, St Mirren recorded the biggest percentage increase in squad value at 18.6%, while Hibernian saw the biggest drop at 10%. Heart of Midlothian's squad is valued at £22 million, the same as St Mirren's.

Recent momentum on the pitch

Rangers' form has been formidable. Their most recent result was a 1-0 away win over Celtic on September 20, with Ryan Naderi scoring the only goal in the 33rd minute. That followed the 3-0 home win where D. Neil scored twice and K. Kelsy added another. The team has scored eight goals and conceded four this season, giving them a goal difference of plus four. Their top scorer so far is L. Shankland with three goals in five appearances. Check the team's upcoming schedule on our fixtures page.

While the financial and on-pitch gaps are closing, the historical trophy count remains a stark contrast. Celtic have won a world record 122 major honours in their 138-year history. They have secured 14 of the last 15 league titles, including a period known as the quadruple treble. Since 2012, Rangers have won one league title in 2020, one Scottish Cup, and one League Cup.

Matt Corr, author of a book on Celtic's history, said his work "Celtic in the Fifties by Matt Corr, in two volumes, both published on 4th September 2026 by Celtic Star Books."

Rangers will aim to extend their winning run and maintain pressure at the top when they host Kilmarnock, who are 12th in the table, on October 10.
