Tuur Rommens has a fight on his hands to reclaim his Rangers starting spot after returning from a groin injury. The Belgian left-back is now fit but faces competition from James Penrice, who has impressed in his absence.

Barry Ferguson, the Gers icon, said it was great to see Rommens back fit. "But I think he has got a job on his hands," Ferguson said. "I think Penrice has been outstanding."

Penrice has impressed

James Penrice arrived from AEK Athens on loan this summer and stepped in during Rommens' absence. He has delivered standout performances, including against Celtic in the Premier Sports Cup, contributing goals and assists from the left-back position.

Ferguson praised the loanee's impact. He said Penrice has settled in quickly, shown quality and looks like he is loving life. "But now he'll know that he has got a quality player up against him in Rommens," Ferguson added.

Rangers sit second in the Premiership with 16 points from seven games, two points behind leaders Celtic. Their recent form includes a 1-0 win over Celtic last month.

The squad's depth is being tested as they prepare to host Kilmarnock this week. Rommens will need to prove himself in training to displace Penrice for that match.
