Rangers have named their starting XI for tonight’s pre-season friendly against AS Saint-Étienne at Ibrox.

Derek McInnes, the Rangers manager, has included five new arrivals in the starting line-up. Ivor Pandur, Ross McCrorie, Ben Godfrey, Dan Neil and Lawrence Shankland all feature in the XI for the 7.45pm kick-off.

Starting XI Pandur starts in goal behind a back four of McCrorie, Godfrey, Emmanuel Fernandez and Tuur Rommens. In midfield, Dan Neil partners Tochi Chukwuani with Mohamed Diomande and Findlay Curtis on the flanks. Youssef Chermiti, last season’s top scorer, is joined in attack by Shankland.

Substitutes Cammy Devlin makes his first appearance in a Rangers squad as he is named on the bench. He is joined there by Liam Kelly, Rydnn McGuire, Thelo Aasgaard, Nedim Bajrami, Lyall Cameron, Oliver Antman, Clinton Nsiala, Ryan Naderi, Dujon Sterling, Djeidi Gassama, Bojan Miovski, Zander Hutton, Ross McCausland and Paul Nsio.

The match is exclusively live on RangersTV. The Gers will use the fixture to test new recruits and bed in tactical ideas ahead of the Premiership campaign.

What’s the plan for Rangers’ pre-season?

McInnes is using the Saint-Étienne game to gauge fitness and chemistry. Five new signings feature, including goalkeeper Pandur and defenders McCrorie and Godfrey. Midfielders Neil and Chukwuani also start, while Shankland joins Chermiti up front.

The squad includes 15 substitutes, giving McInnes plenty of options to rotate. Devlin, a summer arrival from Ross County, makes his first appearance in a Rangers shirt.

Who are the headline names to watch?

Pandur, the Romanian goalkeeper, makes his debut after signing from Fortuna Sittard. Godfrey arrives from Everton, while McCrorie returns after a loan spell at Portsmouth. Shankland, the Scottish striker, joins after a prolific spell at Hearts.

Chermiti, who netted 12 goals last term, starts alongside Shankland. Neil, the midfielder signed from Aberdeen, partners Chukwuani in central midfield.

Why does this friendly matter for Rangers?

Pre-season friendlies offer McInnes a chance to assess squad depth. The Gers have added five new faces, and tonight’s game is their first real test of summer work.

The friendly also provides fringe players like Devlin and Antman with minutes. McInnes will use the match to fine-tune tactics before the Premiership opener.

What’s next for Rangers?

After Saint-Étienne, McInnes will likely rotate the squad in upcoming friendlies. The focus remains on fitness and cohesion ahead of the Premiership season.

The Gers’ first competitive fixture is on 3 August against Kilmarnock. Tonight’s game is a chance to build momentum before the campaign begins.
