Rangers have confirmed interim manager Barry Ferguson will not continue in his position beyond this season. The former Rangers captain was appointed in February for the remaining three months of the campaign.
What happened?
Ferguson saw his side collect four points from their two Old Firm matches and progressed past Fenerbahce in the Europa League round-of-16. However, he oversaw just six victories in his 15 matches at the helm and two in the final nine matches of the campaign.
Why it matters for Rangers
Rangers were 13 points behind Celtic at the time of Ferguson's appointment, with their Glasgow rivals stretching their lead to a 17-point margin by the conclusion of the campaign. Celtic won their fourth Scottish title in a row and 13 of the last 14, with Rangers’ sole title in that timeframe in the 2020-21 season.
What comes next?
As of our latest update, Rangers are currently 2nd in Premiership, with 69 pts, 19W-12D-2L from 33 games, and a recent form of WLLLL. Their last result was a 5-2 win against Falkirk on 2026-05-16. | Stat | Value | | --- | --- | | League standing | 2nd in Premiership | | Points | 69 | | Recent form | WLLLL | | Last result | Falkirk 2-5 Rangers (2026-05-16) | Ferguson's coaching staff of Neil McCann, Billy Dodds and Allan McGregor will also depart.
